BACON-PIG Meeting of October 23, 2008

PyCon 2008 and SciPy 2008:
 Steve Waterbury gave a very brief overview of these conventions (slides to be added soon).
Introductions:Everyone introduced themselves and described briefly how they are using or would like to use Python.
Sensor Observation Service Project:
 Ben Welton, an undergraduate student intern at Goddard, presented his project. He is using Python to develop a web service that implements the Sensor Observation Service (SOS) specification to distribute earth observation data in support of Goddard's EO-1 mission.
Space Telescope Science Institute:
 Perry Greenfield described how he and the Space Telescope Science Institute got involved in helping to enhance and further develop the Numpy and SciPy libraries.
matplotlib:Michael Droettboom of the Space Telescope Science Institute presented the matplotlib web site, which uses the new Sphinx Python documentation system to excellent effect.
Open discussion:
 The group discussed priorities and future meeting plans for the BACON-PIG -- the discussion will be continued on the bacon-pig list.
